So I did what I said I'd do and spoke with one of the coaches. She gave me excuses and blew smoke up my arse and I didn't appreciate it. She tried to say they had to open up try outs after the final cut because some of the girls had valid excuses. Ummm I get that but how do you justify what you just did? I don't know and I don't care.. they were wrong and what they just taught my daughter was if you can manipulate the system then you can get what you want despite there being rules that you should follow.
So now I have a Varsity Soccer player, simply because there aren't enough girls to make the two teams. She's determined to hone her goalie skills and she'll do fine. She was hurt and angry because she didn't make the softball team and I can't blame her.
Tonight is my favorite show of the Bachelor.. The Women Tell All.. heehee nothing like some cat fights to complete my Monday night!

That is ludicris!! And I don't mean the rapper! WTF?? I'm glad she's able to move on to another sport, but I cannot imagine how upset she is!
That is still just so wrong. I'm glad she's willing to continue on with soccer. Hugs to both of you!
I'm glad she made the Soccer team. But I still think what the coaches did was wrong. Valid excuses or no (what is a valid excuse anyway, I'd sure like to know) kids need to start learning consequenses for their actions, or lack there of. There are rules etc. that must be followed. And there are dead lines in life. I seriously doubt that the federal government would give me a break for filing my taxes late, I'd still have to pay the fines and penalties regardless of any excuse I might have. If I were you (and this is so easy to say since I'm not) I'd still talk to the athlectic director and find out if this is common practice.

I agree. Snow put it very well.
HUGS to her and to you.
That's a bummer that she didn't make it. Sounds like the same political b.s. you see with at all schools. I remember it at mine too. Try-outs always seem to be rigged. Poor girl.
That IS a load of crap. I'm so sick and tired of the world lately... laziness is rewarded... repeatedly. BLAH!
Grr Boo Hiss.
Well at least Chelsea knows what those coaches are like. If they do this thing during tryouts there is no telling how they play the game. At least she knows their lack of honor now and not while she's stuck playing the season. HUGS!
I'm sorry that this happened. I am glad that she is playing soccer, I know it isn't her first choice but she is good at it as well. This is something I would definitely bring up to the school board. It's not like tryouts were 1 day and you missed it, they were over several days, right? Rules are in place for a reason, and kids today need to learn that deadlines are deadlines and rules are rules. And we wonder why some kids act up the way they do. These adults are teaching them rules are meant to be broken.
It's amazing. Do schools think that reading & writing are the only lessons children need to be taught in school? They missed a very good opportunity to teach those girls a very important life lesson. Sometimes, regardless how valid an excuse is, you just have to miss out. You have to choose between things - even things we have little control over. That being said, you taught your daughter the validity of righteous anger. You allowed her to feel justified in her feelings. You backed her up by taking the complaint to the school. Then you helped her move on. Most of us don't get our first choices in life. But she may be a star on the soccer team rather than one of the gang on the baseball field. At any rate, this is a perfect illustration of the saying you have at the top of your blog! Sorry it had to happen this way - but way to go for turning it into a class act on Chelsea's & your part!
